John Jones HeadshotJohn Jones is an IT executive with over 25 years of experience in project & people management. He currently serves as the Assistant Director of IT for the city of College Station as well as adjunct professor for USC Bovard College, providing curriculum development and instruction for graduate-level courses in Project/Program/Portfolio management. Over his career, John has developed a specialized skill set for technology-related projects in the public sector which include networking; data center expansions; application development, migration, integration and adoption; business intelligence infrastructure implementation and (broadband) fiber to the home (FTTH) design; and business planning.

John graduated from PMI’s Leadership Institute Master’s Class (LIMC) in 2015, served as Region Mentor from 2019-2021, and is currently on the DE&I Global Insight Team for PMI. He also teaches and conducts workshops on leadership and teambuilding, project management and organizational change management. Jones holds a BA in Digital Graphics from California State University-East Bay. In addition to his PMP, Jones has an ITIL certificate and is a graduate of the Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CGCIO) program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A lifelong learner, he is currently working towards a Master's degree in Communications with an emphasis on Organizational Leadership. 

Topic Synopsis:

EQ, Problem Solving, Team Building, Leadership Skills, Teamwork, DE&I, Volunteer Engagement, Communication, Decision Making A cohesive team is vital to success; volunteers and project teams require a collaborative leader to nurture professional and personal outcomes. This session will walk you through building a successful team intent on success by understanding all of the players, including yourself, better! Hands-on activities will encourage problem solving, creative thinking, decision making, communication, cooperation, trust and support and, of course, leadership! This FUN session will provide you with tools you can take back to understand your challenges, prepare for and run your own team-building activities, how to debrief and reinforce these activities with your own project workgroups and/or volunteer leaders. Demonstrate activities to illustrate collaborative goal achievements and recognize leadership qualities. Develop fun ways to practice teambuilding for your workgroup and volunteer teams.

Learning Objectives:

1. Develop Collaborative Skills: Participants will enhance their emotional intelligence and communication abilities to foster a supportive team environment that encourages cooperation, trust, and active engagement among team members and volunteers.

2. Implement Effective Team-Building Strategies: Attendees will learn practical techniques and activities to facilitate team-building sessions that promote problem-solving, creative thinking, and effective decision-making, ensuring they can lead their own teams toward shared goal

3. Evaluate Leadership Qualities: Participants will gain insights into identifying and nurturing leadership qualities within themselves and others, enabling them to recognize and cultivate the strengths of diverse team members to drive successful project outcomes.
