Topic Synopsis:
Today's leaders are faced with uncertainty, burnout, and new challenges every day. Though prepared for the technical aspects of a position, leaders have often been thrust into positions of management and mentoring without the chance to learn how to lead or even what it means to be a leader beyond the tasks associated with leadership.
Understanding that there is a latent leader identity within all of us, this discussion is designed to facilitate and strengthen that possible self that is a leader and potential obstacles, internal and societal, that may be holding them back. Participants will be equipped with an understanding of who they are when opportunities and uncertainties arise. Furthermore, they will be challenged to interrogate their own motivations and leadership to determine whether their leadership empowers others and fosters an environment ripe for transformative change when necessary.
Learning Objectives:
Understand Core Concepts of Leader Identity Development: Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the concept of leader identity development exploring what inhibits and what motivates their self-efficacy in terms of their leader identity. Participants will learn about leveraging inner strength for growth, resilience, and preparation for the uncertainties of leadership.
Distinguish Leadership Actions that Facilitate Empowerment Grounded: Participants will consider their values and habits in order to evaluate their behaviors and determine if they are empowering or oppressing others in their interactions/management.
Create a Leadership Philosophy: Attendees will develop personalized action plans that will foster the leader identity that is authentic to themselves, practical for their environment, and able to help them meet the uncertainties that arise.
