"How to Have Better Conversations That Lead To Better Project Outcomes"
Nadine Fortin believes that Project Managers drive positive changes … one project at a time. As an executive coach, she helps her clients find their own leadership style to undertake bold projects. Her background includes an atypical combination of engineering, project management, coaching and leadership. With her degree in computer engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada, she started her career as an aerospace engineering officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After, she spent 11 years as a project manager in the high-tech industry, before spending the next 15 years as an executive coach, as well as a trainer (leadership, coaching and project management). She is an international speaker and has worked with clients in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. In December 2020, she went back to her passion for aerospace by joining L3Harris as an avionics project manager on the RCAF CC150 Polaris Program. She is on the PMI Ottawa Valley Outaouais Chapter Board of Directors, and she was a PMP Exam Prep Course instructor.
Topic Synopsis:
Did you know that according to a Stanford University study, nine conversations out of ten miss their mark? Yes! Only 10% of what you express is understood the way you meant it. While we don’t always perceive it, we have all lived through difficult situations:
- A conflict where others interpret our words out of context and our intention is misunderstood.
- Being interrupted, ignored or excluded from a conversation when we are a stakeholder.
- Turf wars when being right takes precedence over common sense
In this fun interactive session, we will explore some of the filters that prevent us from being completely “in-sync” with one another, and we will play with a few tools to help you, as a leader, to ensure better team dynamics and conversations that are more productive, positive and creative.
Learning Objectives:
1. Improve your awareness of underlying dynamics that are impeding your team performance.
2. Discern between attitude and behaviors that contribute to a higher level of trust and those that damage it.
3. Take steps to promote conversations that contribute to higher team performance
