Topic Synopsis:
Failure! Be it in private or public life, this seven-lettered word is an outcome that no one wants to associate with or hear more of; arguably not in Q4 2020, with everything else that has happened in the year thus far! However, while views may vary depending on the world in which a person lives, the reality in the world of major and mega projects (Construction, Information Technology, Acquisition, Divestiture, etc.) is that there are more failed outcomes than successful ones.
What is failure? What does project failure mean? Why do projects fail? How may project failure become the catalyst for longer term, sustained growth for project teams and the sponsoring organizations?
Simply put, when a project does not deliver, at least, its pre-defined project management and product’s key performance criteria, it is deemed a failure; most often resulting from a cacophony of controllable and uncontrollable factors. According to industry surveys, more than 95% of the evidently successful organizations today have once experienced significant failure in one form or another, inferring that failure is a sine qua non for development and longer-term growth.
This presentation addresses failure in general discusses project failure factors and concludes with how certain businesses and teams use project failure as a catalyst for longer-term, sustained professional and organizational growth. Yours can, too!
Learning Objectives:
1. To evaluate failure and its challenges in general
2. To discuss project failure factors based on learnings from major Oil, Gas & Mining investments (transactions and construction), and
3. Understands how project failure can be the catalyst for longer-term, sustained professional and organizational growth.
