Topic Description:

Every project needs a manager - the single point of accountability for the delivery of the project’s business outcomes.

A project is a temporary activity with a defined start, a finish, a degree of complexity, a set of constraints, risks and/or issues.

The issues could relate to time pressure, budget restrictions, skills availability/accessibility, goals, personalities, roles, global politics, the timing of new regulations, market dynamics, stakeholder expectations, etc

Strategically speaking, the project manager wears many hats, chief of which are servant leader, change agent, mentor, trainer, spokesperson, “delivery person”, chief liaison officer, key interface with certain functions within an organization, etc in delivering on an investment’s expected outcomes, translating business strategies to operational realities and, perhaps, helping to bring a product to market.

In delivering projects, the answer to the question around which of hard or soft skills are more important almost always favors soft skills. Of course, this doesn’t mean that soft skills alone are all one needs to deliver successful projects – knowledge of project delivery basics is undeniably fundamental.

This presentation assesses BALANCE - a core project management soft skill and identifies elements of project managers’ day to day responsibilities that require a conscious sense of BALANCE in order to consistently create success for themselves and deliver value to their sponsoring organizations. The presentation concludes with a Call to Action for Project Managers to self-assess and zero-in on their day-to-day practice areas where BALANCE could further enhance their performance, now and well into the future.

Topic Description: Social Capital - next to our spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical capacities - is the single greatest source of ongoing life-long value that we each possess. Other than our very lives and selves, it is our most important asset. But who among us even thinks of it that way, let alone consistently invests our time, energy, and money in building it? It poses the following questions:

·         What is Social Capital, anyway?

·         Why is Social Capital so valuable?

·         How do I strategically build, maintain, and grow Social Capital in value as a business asset?

In this seminar, we will explore these ideas and questions together and discuss some of the life disciplines, competencies, and skills required to leverage and capitalize on this tremendous source of wealth in our lives.
