Here are some FAQs for speakers. This page will be updated periodically as more questions come in. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Prior to completing the 2020 Speaker Application, please be prepared with the following information:

  • Contact Information
  • Website URL
  • Link to any videos of you speaking
  • 2 References from speaking opportunities
  • Past Speaking engagements (Dates, venue, topics, etc.)
  • Short Paragraph Style Biography (if selected, we will post to our website)
  • Headshot in JPEG format (if selected, we will post to our website)
  • Topic Description and at least 3 learning objectives (if selected, we will post to our website)

Q: When is the conference?
A: The 2020 Conference has currently been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. PMI Houston will be updating everyone as soon as we have a new date for our conference. The conference will still take place in Houston, Tx at NRG Center. (Please Read PMI Houston's letter regarding the conference postponement)

Q: What is the deadline for my application?
A: At this time, we are still accepting applications for our Breakout Sessions. We will send out an email to everyone to advise when we have a new deadline for submission. If you are interested in speaking in one of our Breakout Sessions, we encourage you to submit your application EARLY! We have already started reviewing the submissions we have received, and we have some FANTASTIC candidates for 2020!

Q: Do I have to be a PMI member to be a speaker?
A: No, you do not.

Q: What are my options as a speaker?
A: We are seeking speakers for our Breakout Sessions. The format for these sessions will be the 75-minute breakout sessions we have every year for our attendees, but we are looking for new and exciting topics to provide.

Q: Does PMI pay a speaking fee?
A: PMI does not pay a speaking fee for our Breakout Session speakers. These speakers will receive a complimentary 1-day registration on the day they speak at the conference. Up to two (2), co-presenters will also receive a 50% discount off registration to the event as long as they are named in your proposal.

Q: Will PMI reimburse me for travel costs, meals, hotel or other expenses?
A: No, PMI does not reimburse any expenses that our Breakout Session speakers incur in coming to the conference. We will provide these speakers with a discount code for the hotel, upon request. 

Q: Tell me more about the Conference Theme and Tracks.
A: Our 2020 Conference Theme is, Power of the Past - Force of the Future. The most important project you will ever manage is your own career. PMI Houston wants to help our members and attendees manage their careers effectively by becoming a trusted partner in every career stage.

Q: What kinds of topics are you hoping to see? Can you provide any guidance?
A: We would like to see a wide range of topics during our 2-day conference covering all and three “sides” of the PMI Talent Triangle. Some of our attendees come to this conference hoping to satisfy the large majority of their PDU requirements for the entire year. Note that in your application you will be asked to indicate the specific Track and Talent that each of your proposed topics best supports. Strong applications will include a variety of proposed topics that address several Tracks and Talents.

Q: I have dietary restrictions. What are my options?
A: If you note a preference for vegetarian or gluten-free options in your Speaker Application, we will make suitable items available to you. Menu items will be labeled to assist you in your selection.

Q: I would like to attend the full conference. How do I register for extra days?
A: If you are a confirmed Breakout Session speaker, please email [email protected] and we will assist you in registering for the additional day.

Q: Am I allowed to promote my business during my speaking engagement?
A: Yes, you are allowed a maximum of 3 slides and 3 minutes of promotion at the end of your presentation.

Q: Do I need to bring my own laptop?
A: You are encouraged to bring your own laptop. However, each room can be equipped with a laptop (PC), projector, screen, clicker, and whiteboards/markers as requested. If selected to serve as a speaker, you will have the opportunity to make these requests.

Q: Should I bring my own printed materials?
A: Yes, speakers in our Breakout Sessions are asked to bring their own printed materials.
