The Importance of Networking

By Amy Stonesifer, PMI® Houston Chapter President

When surveyed members always place networking in the top 3 reasons they join PMI®Houston and PMI® Global, its importance is obvious. Networking gives us the opportunity to meet others in the Project Management community, allowing us to share challenges and successes, current projects, and also get ideas from others to apply to those projects.

PMI® Houston offers many opportunities to network; just take a look at our calendar! Come out and get connected with your Project Management community. We just ask that you pre-register so we can plan accordingly.

Not only do we offer Chapter Meetings close to your work or home (these events provide the  opportunity to network and earn PDUs while learning something new), but we also have some opportunities to network for a cause and support our community (like we did earlier this year at the Houston Food Bank Networking with a Purpose). How about joining other PMs for Happy Hour to mingle on your way home from work? Pick the networking opportunity that fits your schedule. Mark your calendar and register now so you don’t miss out!

See you soon!

(See the Professional Interests section below for our Chapter’s upcoming Special Networking Events; and visit the PMI Houston website for a listing of all upcoming Chapter activities)

Executive Breakfast

By Jim Benvie, PMI® Houston Chapter VP of Programs

Our Platinum sponsor LitheSpeedwill be sponsoring an Executive Breakfast with PMI® Houston in the fall. (The provisional date is October 26th).

If you are a Program Manager, PMO Manager, or executive who who would like to understand how Agile and Lean methods could benefit your company, you should plan to attend.

Alternatively, if you feel your manager would benefit from attending please recommend this event to him or her. This event is in line with LitheSpeed’s mission to make people’s work more productive, valued, and fulfilling.

The Key Takeaway: Some people think Agile and Lean methods are fads.  LitheSpeedbelieves they’re the key to a cultural shift and a transformative way of getting things done.

For more information on LitheSpeed, please visit http://www.lithespeed.com. For more information regarding the event, please contact Jim Benvie at vpprograms@pmihouston.org.

The Mechanics of Communication

By Thomas Goebel, PMI® Houston Chapter Volunteer Content Writer

In Project Management, you don’t have to be an inspirational speaker like Zig Ziglar to be an effective communicator.  Don’t worry if you’re not a born storyteller.  Rather than weaving a narrative that will keep your audience enthralled, your immediate focus should be on delivering pertinent information about the project to the stakeholders.

So, how do you shake the feeling of inevitable communication collapse? Learn how by reading the full article here.
