Celebrating The Power of You and More!

The first Monday in June will always see the PMI® Houston Chapter hosting our annual conference at NRG Center. This year was no different with The Power of You focused on providing professional development to over 450 attendees through the learning of new skills, sharpening old ones, and inspiring them in their profession.

We’ve heard some great feedback and we're excited to hear your comments about our Keynote speakers Afterburners Jim “Murph” Murphy and Chris “Elroy” Strickilin, plus SEBA Solutions’ Dr. James Brown. If you attended the conference please check your email for our post-conference survey. We have built this event based on attendee feedback, and the changes we made in conference format this year were based on feedback from last year’s 2016 Conference attendees. Please make sure you share your experience so we can deliver what you want in a conference!

Thank you to our conference attendees for entrusting us to provide you an opportunity to learn and network!

Thank you to our speakers who make our conference such a great learning opportunity for personal growth. We are grateful for your commitment to our chapter and profession.

Thank you to our Sponsors who assist us in providing you our conference and support our efforts year round.

Networking with a Purpose

Networking is one of the top 3 reasons people join PMI®. Volunteering is a great way to network especially when it benefits our community. Recently we held our first Networking with a Purpose event at the Houston Food Bank. The idea was to give back to our community and meet other PMI® Members; plus, you could bring along a friend or family members.

At our first event, we had over 20 PMI® Houston members with their families, who joined together for a Saturday morning volunteer group of 250 people to pack food at the Houston Food Bank.

This great idea came from PMIH Membership team member Samir Rostane who is chairing these events and organized volunteers. Samir commented “Amazing! Thank you very much for everyone’s contribution, we had a lot of fun and by those numbers, it’s truly unbelievable the amount of impact that we can achieve when we come together.”

PMIH Membership Volunteer Lead Stephanie Willms shared: We helped the food bank sort 32,650 lbs. of food, which is equivalent to 27,208 meals! “It was great meeting everyone and I hope to see everyone again at the next event!”

Thank you to everyone who came out!

Come on out and join us at the next Networking with a Purpose event on July 22nd at the Herman Park Conservancy!

Slaying Dragons

By Thomas Goebel, PMI® Houston Chapter Volunteer Content Writer

Once Upon A Time, a discipline called Project Management was created to help sort out problems that arose during the conduct of projects.  All the King’s Horses and All the King’s Men were relegated to putting the projects back together again.  All across the land, Project Management spread, and the people rejoiced. But dragons lurked…Learn more about these “dragons” and the havoc they wreak upon Project Management by reading the full article here
