It’s April! What have you done to invest in you?

By Amy Stonesifer, PMI® Houston Chapter President

In the rush of the year I’ve had new projects to get off the ground, the Super Bowl, a conference to attend, spring cleaning, gardening, the Rodeo, March Madness…it’s all a fog. Suddenly I realize nothing has been done toward my personal development goals.

In January I challenged ya’ll to put it on your calendar. “Get it scheduled or it won’t happen”. Yet, here I am with ZERO on my calendar! If you’re in the same boat, here are some options to consider:

    •         ProjectManagement.com is a great source for on demand webinars, whitepapers and templates. It’s free for PMI® members – just use your PMI® user ID and password to log in. This year they are celebrating their 10-year anniversary and hosting their annual web conference. Check it out here.

    •          PMP Certification – If you want to finally earn that certification you’re not alone. Check out our 4-day PMP®review course to prepare for the exam and meet PMI®’s 35-hour class requirement. You will receive course materials to assist in your study for the exam. Click herefor more details.

The Power of You our annual conference is open for registration. Learn more about our workshop speakers and keynote speakers: Afterburner and Dr. James Brown. Early bird discount ends on April 22.  Get more information and register here.

Take the time to choose and schedule your professional development. We all have so much to do daily and time flies by. Stop and consider what will strengthen your skill set and get it onto your calendar.

Here are a few targeted points to whet your appetite.

Let’s introduce a framework for “jargon-free agility” that is meant to help folks understand the patterns behind the methods in a manner applicable outside of the world of software development.  The core concepts of jargon-free agility are: Understand Value; Think Big, Build Small; Focus on Feedback; Work Together, and Keep Work Visible.

Lean and Agile Together Sparks Innovation

By Kim Montes, MBA, PMP®, via interviews with Fabrice Bouchereau and Eddie Merla

This approach was turned on its head when Fabrice Bouchereau decided to writeKaizen Kanban:  A Visual Facilitation Approach to Create Prioritized Project Pipelines with the support of his friend Eddie Merla.
