After serving as a business analyst and programmer analyst, Kimberley earned the moniker “funky-tech’. Kimberley has earned a Master of Science in Professional Writing and Technical Communication that complements her professional experience with advanced studies in communication ethics, rhetorical analysis, instructional design, usability research, and project management. She is a certified project management professional (PMP) and a member of the Society for Technical Communication and the Project Management Institute. |

| Topic Description: Using Plain Language and Technical Communication Guidelines to Improve Project Documentation As project management practitioners, you understand the critical importance of effective communication. This presentation focuses on the plain language communication strategies used to ensure clear and effective written communication with geographically-dispersed, cross-functional project teams throughout the project lifecycle. The plain language movement (also known as plain writing and plain English) in the United States began as an effort to decrease the complex, confusing language commonly used by federal agencies when communicating with the public. Plain language has since moved into the business sector, requiring creditors to provide consumers clear disclosures of account terms and statement activity. While not mandated by the federal government, plain language has been embraced by industries that recognize the benefits of plain language in business communications. Professional Development Units (PDU) for PMI certified professionals:
The introduction of the updated CCR system, has resulted in a much simpler procedure for claiming PDUs. As before, there are no specific PDU codes for events that award up to 2 PDUs. Each PMI Houston meeting with a 1-hour presentation, on a PM Talent Triangle topic, equals 1 PDU. (The category for each presentation will be indicated on the web-site) This includes dinner meetings, pre-dinner meetings and meetings at any of PMI Houston's satellite venues. If you attended both pre-dinner and dinner presentations, please submit 2 PDU claims following the process below for each presentation event.
Procedure for getting PDU credit for PMI® Houston’s meetings towards the recertification of your PMI credential (PMP, PgMP, etc.):
- Go to www.pmi.org and log in using your pmi.org Username and Password.
- Select myPMI and click on “Report PDUs”
- Click on “Organization Meetings” and fill in the form.
- Organization Host " PMI Houston "
- Title “Chapter Meeting”
- Meeting Number (Optional) C012 (zero)
- Date Started Use Calendar to complete
- Date Completed Use Calendar to complete
- PDUs claimed - Enter 1, under the relevant category of the Talent Triangle. (Each 1 hr. presentation equals 1 PDU)
- Review the data entered, if correct click the box indicating "I agree this claim is accurate"
- Click Submit
