Theme Park Project - Your Risk Plan for Jurassic World

    Bruce Garrett, PMP, DTM

Bruce Garrett completed a career in the computer and electronics industries in October 2012.  Over a 38 year period he worked in both engineering and management positions for Texas Instruments, Schlumberger, and HP.   His latest work at HP was in Software Project Management.  Since leaving HP, he has worked part time as a college instructor and PM consultant, along with volunteering for PMI and Toastmasters International, a public speaking and leadership organization.  He enjoys speaking on PM topics at the PMI-Houston monthly venues and in his PM Toastmasters clubs.  Bruce gives presentations using popular movies, drawing analogies from various movie clips that project managers can relate to.  Movie clips and photo captions are mixed within his power point slides to prompt good discussion with the audience on PM topics relating to the movie.

    Topic Description:

Theme Park Project - Your Risk Plan for Jurassic World

Imagine you are the PM for this new theme park, Jurassic World.  This presentation will use the Jurassic World movie to prompt discussion on Risk Planning and Risk Management.  The speaker will show several clips and movie photo captions to present a story line with you in it!  You are the RMP or Risk Management Professional for Jurassic World, along with being a safety expert for this operational theme park.  Hollywood has created an exciting blockbuster movie, a science fiction thriller with risky and dangerous scenes.  Let’s view a few Jurassic World clips from the standpoint of a PM and discuss some preventative and corrective actions using Risk Management tools for Jurassic World’s daily operation and for new projects that are additions to the park.  This will be a fun journey to use your imagination and learn some risk planning and risk management techniques.

Professional Development Units (PDU) for PMI certified professionals:

The introduction of the updated CCR system, has resulted in a much simpler procedure for claiming PDUs. As before, there are no specific PDU codes for events that award up to 2 PDUs. Each PMI Houston meeting with a 1-hour presentation, on a PM Talent Triangle topic, equals 1 PDU. (The category for each presentation will be indicated on the web-site)  This includes dinner meetings, pre-dinner meetings and meetings at any of PMI Houston's satellite venues.  If you attended both pre-dinner and dinner presentations, please submit 2 PDU claims following the process below for each presentation event.
