    Jeff has spent nearly 30 years in Project Management. In 1985 he ran his first PMO at a division of Kodak, and in the 1990’s he created Program Management Solutions Inc. which provided services to government projects like SDI, Space Station & Chemical Weapons. Since 2002 he has worked at Microsoft in a number of positions focused on helping customers realize the value of their investments in the Microsoft EPM platform.

    Topic Description:

    We will demonstrate the power of integrating your Project Management Data with Live Internet of Things data to better predict outcomes and operate more efficiently. Using visualization and prediction models of this integrated approach you can create a more dynamic Project Management impact on your organization.

    Bill Maples - Wood Group Mustang

    Bill Maples has over 35 years’ experience leading diverse teams in Automation and Engineering Management.  He has 12 years’ experience working as an end user of control systems for major oil companies and over 20 years’ experience with engineering design companies and manufacturers of control system equipment.

    Bill is currently the MAC Project Manager at Wood Group Mustang.  He began his career as a Control Systems Engineer at Exxon Research and Engineering and has held positions in various groups including Mobil Oil Corporation, Emerson Process Management, Black & Veatch, and Wood Group Mustang.   He worked on some of the first global DCS systems in Europe, was part of the massive offshore North Field development in Qatar, and recently worked in the UK managing automation projects for Kazakhstan.

    Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Missouri S&T and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from University of Kansas.  His master thesis covered Front End Loading Risk Management for Automation Projects.   He is a certified Professional Engineer in Kansas and has held a PMP certification since 2004.  He has been a guest speaker at the University of Kansas and a prior PMI Symposium speaker in Kansas City.

    Topic Description: 

    In this presentation, Bill Maples will discuss proposed best practices for large scale automation projects in today’s global oil and gas industry.   The presentation will cover best practices that are frequently overlooked by Project Managers when challenged with complex large automation projects.  The presentation draws on other similar best practices that have been utilized successfully on other historical global endeavors and applied to automation projects.

    Professional Development Units (PDU) for PMI certified professionals:

    The introduction of the updated CCR system, has resulted in a much simpler procedure for claiming PDUs.  As before, there are no specific PDU codes for events that award up to 2 PDUs. Each PMI Houston meeting with a 1-hour presentation, on a PM Talent Triangle topic, equals 1 PDU. (The category for each presentation will be indicated on the web-site)  This includes dinner meetings, pre-dinner meetings and meetings at any of PMI Houston's satellite venues.  If you attended both pre-dinner and dinner presentations, please submit 2 PDU claims following the process below for each presentation event.

    Procedure for getting PDU credit for PMI® Houston’s meetings towards the recertification of your PMI credential (PMP, PgMP, etc.):

    1. Go to www.pmi.org and log in using your pmi.org Username and Password.
    2. Select myPMI and click on “Report PDUs”
    3. Click on “Organization Meetings” and fill in the form.
    4. Organization Host " PMI Houston "
    5. Title  “Chapter Meeting”
    6. Meeting Number (Optional)  C012 (zero)
    7. Date Started Use Calendar to complete
    8. Date Completed Use Calendar to complete
    9. PDUs claimed - Enter 1, under the relevant category of the Talent Triangle. (Each 1 hr. presentation equals 1 PDU)
    10. Review the data entered, if correct click the box indicating "I agree this claim is accurate"
    11. Click Submit
