Keep Houston Agile

Keep Houston Agile (KHA) Workshop, a Forum for Ideas and Inspiration

By Alex Nascimento, MBA, CSM, PMP, Director of Membership and KHA Project Manager, and Kim Montes, PMP, KHA Marketing Committee Lead

More than 100 participants attended the first Keep Houston Agile Workshop on February 11, 2017 at the Houston Food Bank. The sold-out event was organized by volunteers of the PMI Houston Chapter and the Agile Leadership Network (ALN) Houston Chapter, and sponsored by Improving, an IT services firm.

The one-day workshop catered to all interests and levels of experience, from the Agile “newbie” to the experienced practitioner. There were 12 breakout sessions and an Open Space Forum. The sessions covered topics such as adopting the Agile mindset, leveraging Agile for continuous improvement and innovation, project portfolio management, and quality and stakeholder management. The Open Space Forum, a 90-minute final session, offered all the participants the opportunity to discuss topics of their choice in small groups, generating a fluid and collaborative atmosphere.

The event was considered a great success by different measures. Participants and organizers alike were particularly happy about the caliber of the presenters who donated their time to participate in the event.  The presenters included thought leaders that hailed from the Houston area as well as from other states. Attendee Cathy Lehman summarized the event in the following way on social media:

"Yesterday was awesome at the "Keep Houston Agile" event sponsored by Agile Leadership Network Houston and PMI Houston Chapter. The all-day event included great Agile speakers, a lovely meal, and I particularly liked the "Open Space Forum" at the end of the day. It was a great learning and networking event. Thanks ALN and PMI! Cheers!”  ~Cathy Lehman, CSM, PMP, PMI Houston Member
